Superheterodyne (common). Wave bands: Broadcast only (MW). Loudspeaker: Electro Magnetic Dynamic LS (moving-coil with field excitation coil, 8 inch). Veneered wooden cabinet. SOURCE: RADIOMUSEUM.ORG
The front of the cabinet is mostly good condition. The original wood trim around the controls is missing, and the speaker cloth has been replaced with some greenish, worn cloth.
Electronics are intact, tubes all there, but wires and components show significant wear and cracking, so repairing the radio would likely be costly.
There are no Crosley or model number markings anywhere on the chassis. The word "Crosley" appears on the speaker. The speaker might be usable (TBD).
This is an elaborate rotating antenna, but torn up. It will be fun to clean up and restore.
There are some finish damage spots on the top. They might be removable using a liquid finish restorer,.
I can replace the missing wood trim with a custom piece, designed from photos of an original 5539M.
Missing veneer on sides can be "camouflaged."
More missing veneer at the bottom of the cabinet.
